Depending on the class, you may learn how to prepare clay, center clay on the pottery wheel, pull walls, shape a vessel, use pottery tools, handbuild with clay, select glazes, and understand the basic ceramics process.

What should I expect during my first pottery class?

Expect a hands-on experience where you can learn, experiment, get your hands dirty, and create something uniquely yours with guidance from an instructor.

What should I wear to a pottery class?

Wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting clay on. Shorter fingernails can also make wheel throwing easier.

Do I need to bring my own pottery tools?

What happens to my pottery after class?

What Is Pottery Painting?

Pottery painting is the art of decorating pre-made ceramic pieces with colorful glazes. Unlike wheel throwing or hand building, where you create the shape from clay, pottery painting lets you focus entirely on design, color, and creativity.

At Animal House Pottery, our paint-your-own pottery sessions let you choose from a selection of bisque pieces, then paint and decorate them with our studio glazes. Your finished piece is kiln-fired and ready for pickup approximately two to three weeks after your session.

Pottery painting is perfect for beginners, families, kids, date nights, and group outings. No prior experience is needed. All materials, tools, and kiln firing are included in the price.
